This is my finished product for March. The Broadway show that I chose was Into the Woods, another one of my favorites. I added in the holidays, fun fact, moon phases, and the paragraph information too. The requirement for March was to use the paint tool.
These are the two pictures that I drew with the paint tool. I drew trees and the woods for the first picture because the majority of Into the Woods is, obviously, set in the woods. I also added in the title of the show on the side so I would have room for the paragraph in the calendar. The second picture is using the same color gold from the first picture so that it looks cohesive. I chose that paint brush because it looks like lanterns and it looked really magical and Into the Woods is all about magic.
This is my finished project for April. The Broadway show that I chose for the theme of this month was West Side Story. West Side Story is by far my absolute favorite Broadway show. The tools that were required was the select/cut/move/blend tools. I added in the holidays, fun fact, and moon phases just like usual.
The basic picture that I used as the background for the final product is the New York City skyline from the opening credits of the movie. I used the New York skyline because that is where West Side Story takes place.
The logo that I used is actually the logo from the original Broadway posters. I cut it out and moved it to the skyline picture. I also added a red border to the New York skyline to match the red in this.

One other picture is of the two main characters in West Side Story, Tony and Maria. I cropped the background out of this and used the color replacement tool to match the red on the borders and the West Side Story logo. I then moved it to the skyline.
Another picture is the one of the dancers from the opening sequence of the West Side Story movie. I cropped them out and also used the color replacement tool to make them the same color as the border, the logo, and Tony and Maria. This is a very famous part of the movie and I thought it was important to have a picture of it on my final product.
Another picture of Tony and Maria that I cropped and used the color replacement tool on was the one that I put inside the frame. I matched the red to the other red parts of the final product. I thought that it looked funny all cropped because their bodies were cut off so I decided I would get a frame to make it look less awkward. I thought it would be okay to have two Tony and Maria pictures because they are the two most important characters in West Side Story.

I erased all the white inside the frame and used the color replacement tool to make it red to match the border, logo, the two Tony and Maria pictures, and the dancers. I then used it to frame Tony and Maria so it didn't look like their bodies were cut off.
This is my final product for June. I chose the Broadway musical The Little Mermaid for this month because it is usually associated with the summer and June is the beginning of the summer season. I added in the paragraph, the fun fact, Father's Day (for the holidays), and the moon cycle. The requirements for June to paint your own and use text on a path.
The picture above and to the left is the picture that I painted in Photoshop, while the one on the left is the one that I tried to imitate. I used paint to draw the picture and also the smudge tool to make it look more natural. I used different colors to match the waves and I think it turned out pretty well. I used Illustrator to get the text on a path to show the title The Little Mermaid above the sun (the path was the outline of the sun).
This is my final product for August. We did July in second term so that's why I skipped it. I chose the musical Rent for this month, again one of my favorite musicals. It's more edgy and more rock and roll than most Broadway shows. It focuses on AIDS and love and people do die in this show and it's really sad. I added in the paragraph, the moon cycle, and the fun facts (there weren't any holidays). There was no requirement for August so I did what I wanted.
This is the movie poster for the movie version of Rent. I based my final product off of this. I cloned in the actual Rent logo and took away the part where it says 'In Movie Theaters This November' and the other stuff at the bottom. I used same colors as the boxes to make them look the same, but I chose different pictures. I got pictures of the characters and put those in instead and used the color replacement tool to make them the same color as the background in their box. I then got a picture of something that represents what they do and enjoy in life.
This is the picture that I used for the background behind the calendar. It is the opening scene from the movie and the musical. It shows all the characters (Mark, Angel, Joanne, Roger, Collins, Maureen, Benny, and Mimi) from the movie all singing a song called 'Seasons of Love'. I put it through a couple filters and when I put it behind the calendar, I turned the brightness up so that it became darker and you could see the white lettering behind the calendar grid.
This is my finished product for September. The theme for this month was to make a collage. I chose different posters from different Broadway shows and took parts of them and stuck them onto one big picture. I used the shows 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'West Side Story', 'Guys and Dolls', 'Matilda', 'Mary Poppins', 'Wicked', 'Little Shop of Horrors', 'Cinderella', 'Legally Blonde', 'Annie', 'Miss Saigon', 'Phantom of the Opera', 'The Lion King', and 'Into the Woods'. I added in the paragraph, holidays, moon cycle, and fun fact as well.
This is my final product for October. The requirement for this month was to incorporate everything you can do. I used cloning, the color replacement tool, and paint. I cloned the logo from the Broadway poster into the picture of the glass slipper and then replaced the colors from purple to blue, because Cinderella's dress is blue in the Disney film. I then cut out the Cinderella silhouette and moved it to the picture and then replaced that color to blue as well. I did the same thing to the castle in the background, but I used the eraser tool to make a design in the castle so it didn't look so boxy and boring. I am really happy with how this final product turned out.
This is my final product for November. The theme this month was the same as the last (do everything you know). I basically used the cut and paste tools, clone tool, and the paint tools. I used the original Broadway poster for Aladdin as the basic background for the picture and I used the clone tool to make the pattern in the back the whole thing and I also moved the title from the bottom to the top of the picture. I then cut out silhouettes of Aladdin and Jasmine, the two main characters, and used the paint tool to change the color to a purple color. I did the same for the palace and the magic lamp as well, but used a lighter shade of purple. I used a different paint brush for the backgrounds behind the paragraph and the calendar itself and used the purples from the picture to tie it all together.
This is the final product for December of 2015. The theme for this month was to use your own pictures so I chose the ones that meant the most to me. I mainly chose pictures of my family and friends, along with the pictures from my trip to London and Paris last year. The picture in the middle on the top is one from last December and it's with all my cousins (minus 2 of them) and the one next to it on the right is of my friend and me on the graphics field trip earlier this year. My favorite ones are the one of the Eiffel Tower and the one of the London Eye.
This is the final product for January of 2016. I chose the Broadway show Mary Poppins for this month and we could do whatever we want with it. I took the London skyline, because that it where it takes place, and added little Mary Poppins flying around with her umbrella. I also changed the color to purple because that is my favorite color. I used the color replacement tool and the cloning tool as well.
Recipe Book Pages
This is my first page for the recipe book. I chose to make Oreo Cupcakes because I've made them before and they were really good. I took a picture of some of the cupcakes and put it through the film grain filter and then blurred out back two cupcakes. I then traced the front cupcake with black so it was more defined.
This is my second page for the recipe book. I chose to make Oreo Frosting to go with the cupcakes. I took a picture of an Oreo and painted over it and did the same thing for the frosting picture.
This is the extra page that I had to do. I was assigned 'Dessert Pyramid' which is like a food pyramid. I made the big tier at the bottom 'Cakes', the next one 'Chocolate', the next one 'Cookies', and the top one is 'Candy'. It is sort of like the four main 'food groups' of desserts.

Changing the World One Book at a Time
In 1450, Johannes Gutenberg changed the world forever with his invention of his printing press. Before the printing press, books were written out by hand and it took way too long and it cost way too much to write just one book. With the invention of the printing press, books and newspapers could easily be written and distributed throughout the world in a much shorter time period. Without the printing press, books would cost way more than they do. The printing press was also a major reason why the Renaissance happened.
The printing press that Johannes Gutenberg invented and built changed lives all over the world. The reason why this printing press in particular was so successful was because Gutenberg put different slots for different types of text. He had some for upper case letters and some for lower case letters and some for punctuation marks and many more. Using steel blocks, the letters would be pressed onto the paper using the ink that was in the machine. It took years for Johannes Gutenberg to finally finish this invention. He actually started working on the printing press in the 1430s and it was not finished until the early 1450s. He went through many trials and errors, but he eventually came out with a product that has shaped the world to be what it is today.
Without the printing press, there would be a lot more people in this world who could not read. Before the printing press was invented, the poor people of Europe could not afford to buy books or manuscripts to teach themselves or their children to read and write. But with this invention, adults and children of all the social classes were able to learn and educate themselves. Along with this, people also were able to learn to read and understand different languages. The more people that learned to read and write, the smarter the human race became. We were able to spread ideas and culture around the world and record our histories.
The printing press has also had a major impact on the world today. Without the ability to print books and manuscripts out, how would we have ever been able to know or figure out how we could get computers to work. Or how about a career as an author? Without the invention of the printing press, many jobs out there today would not exist. For example, a publisher would not be able to publish as many books without the printing press. Also an author would not be able to make as much of a living as they do today. Without a way to quickly spread their story, how would any author make a living?
The human race has evolved so much since the invention of the printing press. We have gone through wars and famines and terrible things. Without a way to tell our stories to the next generation and have them be able to tell the generation after that, how can we ever evolve more? Without the history of the world being put onto paper and passed down, how will the human race not make the same mistakes as we have in the past. The printing press made this possible. The printing press has made it possible to spread news around the world in a matter of days. Without the invention of the printing press, the world would definitely not be the same as it is today.
